Who should do the mala Dhaaranam?

A guruswami who has been on pilgrimage to Sabarimala for many years and knows its rituals should perform the mala dharanam. This can be at Guruswami’s residence or any place that Guruswami may suggest. If this is not possible, mother and father can perform this ceremony. If it is the Guruswami who is doing the malaDharanam , he should clear all the doubts of his disciple during this period and undertake the pilgrimage with the disciple. The disciple must follow all the instructions of the Guru. Guru should be well versed in this subject. Guru is of utmost importance in the Sabarimala Yatra. It is a guru series method. Maladharana is a great ritual in which the Guru binds himself to the umbilical cord of his knowledge.

Why a mandala fast of 41 days?

Accurate astrology plays a role in Vrithaas in India. Fasting should be observed very seriously. A solar year is 365 days. But there is also the star year. The Nidana Sutra says that since the number of stars is 27, there will be 27 days in this year. 27*12=324 This is the total number of days in a nakshatra year.
The solar year is the Sun’s counterpart, while the Nakshatra year is the Moon’s counterpart. (Suryanadi and Chandranadi in Yoga Shastra should be made a subject of study.) Even the nakshatra is determined according to the position of the moon in the ecliptic. These 41 days are between solar and sidereal years.
(365 – 324 =41.) This is Mandala Vritham 41.

The mantra meening is like this.
May I walk the path of Dharma like the sun and the moon. May those suns and moons be allied with those who observe the fast without moving. As the Rigveda says, every Ayyappa should walk the path of Dharma.
Fasting will purify us. Fasting is not for Ayyappan but to purify us.

Why is the black cloth formed?

Fierceness is important in black creatures. (Yajurveda 24.1). Remember the Rigvedic mantra that Agni is the leading priest. In short, each and every observance of the Sabarimala Yatra is directly related to the Yagakramas, Vratas, Srauta Sutras and Tattvas with the Vedas.

Why is ghee the main offering?

Ghee and coconut will feed the fire. To know this secret, you have to look at Atharvaveda. During the Yajna, Kalasha is placed at four corners around the Homakunda. Kalashas should be filled with milk, water and curd. These kalashas are man made. But the coconut is the kalasha of nature.
“Ksheerena purna udakena dadhna” (Atharvam 4.34.7) as the milky, watery, curdled pitcher coconut. Every Ayyappa Swami should offer this coconut as ahuti. Ghee is offered to that fiery idol. This is a sacrifice. This is the Devayajna itself.

Every devotee who goes on the Sabarimala pilgrimage, regardless of male or female, has to take a 41-day fast to go to that sacred place. Go with a guruswami. Don’t pollute that tapas land without proper ritual… How great is the Vedic View in Sabarimala Pilgrimage.

ശബരിമലയിലേക്കുള്ള യാത്രയിലെ ചിട്ടകളുടെ പ്രാധാന്യം ഒരു ചിന്താവിഷയം…
ആരാണ് മാല ധാരണം ചെയ്യേണ്ടത്?

ഏറെ വർഷക്കാലം ശബരിമല തീർഥാടനം നടത്തിയ, അവിടുത്തെ ആചാര അനുഷ്ടാനങ്ങൾ അറിഞ്ഞ ഒരു ഗുരുസ്വാമിയാണ് മാല ധാരണം നടത്തേണ്ടത്. ഇത് ഗുരുസ്വാമിയുടെ വസതിയിലോ ഗുരുസ്വാമി നിർദ്ദേശിക്കുന്ന ഇടത്തോ ആകാം. ഇതിന് സാധിക്കാതെ വന്നാൽ അമ്മക്കും അച്ഛനും ഈ ചടങ്ങ് ചെയ്യാം. മാല ധാരണം ചെയ്യുന്നത് ഗുരുസ്വാമിയാണങ്കിൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഈ വൃതകാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ തന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്റെ എല്ലാ സംശയങ്ങളും തീർത്തു കൊടുക്കുകയും ശിഷ്യനോടൊപ്പം തീർത്ഥാടനം നടത്തുകയും വേണം. ഗുരുവിന്റെ എല്ലാ നിർദ്ദേശങ്ങളും ശിഷ്യൻ പാലിച്ചിരിക്കണം. ഗുരു ഈ വിഷയത്തിൽ തികഞ്ഞ അറിവുള്ളയാളായിരിക്കണം. ശബരിമല യാത്രയിൽ ഏറ്റുവും പ്രാധാന്യം ഗുരുവിനാണ്. ഇത് ഒരു ഗുരു പരമ്പര മാർഗ്ഗമാണ്. ഗുരു തന്റെ അറിവാകുന്ന പൊക്കിൾക്കൊടി യുമായി ബന്ധിക്കുന്ന ഒരു മഹത്തായ കർമ്മമാണ് മാലധാരണം.

എന്തിനാണ് 41 ദിവസത്തെ ഒരു മണ്ഡല വ്രതം?

ഭാരതത്തിലെ വ്രതങ്ങളിൽ കൃത്യമായ ജ്യോതിശ്ശാസ്ത്രത്തിന്റെ പങ്കുണ്ട്. വളരെ ഗൗരവത്തോടെ വേണം വ്രതത്തെ കാണേണ്ടത്. 365 ദിവസമാണ് ഒരു സൗരവർഷം. എന്നാൽ നക്ഷത്ര സംവത്സരം എന്നതും ഉണ്ട്. നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണം 27 ആയതിനാൽ ഈ സംവത്സരത്തിൽ 27 ദിവസങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും എന്ന് നിദാന സൂത്രത്തിൽ പറയുന്നുണ്ട്. 27*12=324 ഇതാണ് നക്ഷത്ര സംവത്സരത്തിലെ ആകെ ദിവസങ്ങൾ.

സൗരവർഷം സൂര്യന്റെ പന്‌ധാവാണങ്കിൽ നക്ഷത്ര സംവത്സരം ചന്ദ്രന്റെ പന്‌ധാവാണ്. (യോഗശാസ്ത്രത്തിലെ സൂര്യനാഡി ചന്ദ്രനാടി ഒക്കെ ഒരു പഠന വിഷയമാക്കണം). നക്ഷത്രമേതന്ന് നിർണയിക്കുന്നതു പോലും ക്രാന്തിവൃത്തത്തിൽ ചന്ദ്രന്റെ സ്ഥാനമനുസരിച്ചാണ്. ഈ 41 ദിവസം സൗരനക്ഷത്ര സംവത്സരങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിലുള്ളതാണ്.
(365 – 324 =41.) ഇതാണ് മണ്ഡല വ്രതം 41.
ഋഗ്വേദത്തിലെ ഒരു മന്ത്രം ഇങ്ങനെയും.
സ്വസ്തി പന്ഥാമനു ചരേമ
സൂര്യാചന്ദ്രമസാവിവ.
പുനര്ദദതാഘ്നതാ ജാനതാ
സം ഗമേമഹി. ഋഗ് 5.51.15

മന്ത്രാർഥം ഇങ്ങനെയ.
സൂര്യ ചന്ദ്രന്മാരെപ്പോലെ ഞാനും ധർമ്മ വഴിയിൽ സഞ്ചരിക്കട്ടെ. ആ സൂര്യ ചന്ദ്രന്മാരെപ്പോലെ ഇളകാതെ വ്രതത്തെ പാലിക്കുന്നവരുമായി സഖ്യമുണ്ടാകട്ടെ. ഋഗ്വേദം പറയുന്ന പോലെ ഒരോ അയ്യപ്പനും ധർമ്മ വഴിയിൽ സഞ്ചരിക്കണം.
വ്രതം നമ്മെ ശുദ്ധി ചെയ്യും. അയ്യപ്പനു വേണ്ടിയല്ല വ്രതം മറിച്ച് നമ്മെ ശുദ്ധി ചെയ്യാനാ.

എന്തിനാണ് കറുപ്പ് മുണ്ട് ഉടക്കുന്നത്?

കറുത്ത നിറമുള്ള ജീവികളിൽ അഗ്നിതത്വം പ്രധാനമാണ്. (യജുർവേദം 24.1). മുന്നോട്ട് നയിക്കുന്ന പുരോഹിതനാണ് അഗ്നി എന്ന ഋഗ്വേദമന്ത്രം ഓർക്കണം. ചുരുക്കിപ്പറഞ്ഞാൽ ശബരിമല യാത്രയിലെ ഓരോ ആചരണങ്ങളും യാഗക്രമങ്ങളുമായും വ്രതങ്ങൾ ശ്രൗതസൂത്രങ്ങളുമായും തത്ത്വങ്ങൾ വേദങ്ങളുമായി നേരിട്ടു ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടു കിടക്കുന്നു എന്ന് കാണാം.

പ്രധാന വഴിപാടായ നെയ്ത്തേങ്ങ എന്ത് കൊണ്ട്?

നെയ്യും തേങ്ങയും ആഗ്നിയെ പോഷിപ്പിക്കും. തന്നെയുമല്ല ഈ രഹസ്യമറിയാൻ അഥർവവേദത്തിലേക്ക് നോക്കണം. യജ്ഞത്തിൽ ഹോമകുണ്ഡത്തിനു ചുറ്റും നാലു കോണിൽ കലശം വെയ്ക്കും. പാല്, ജലം, തൈര് എന്നിവ നിറച്ചാണ് കലശങ്ങൾ വെയ്ക്കേണ്ടത്. ഈ കലശങ്ങൾ മനുഷ്യ നിർമ്മിതമാണ്. എന്നാൽ പ്രകൃതിയിലെ കലശമാണ് നാളീകേരം. “ക്ഷീരേണ പൂർണാ ഉദകേന ദധ്നാ” (അഥർവം 4.34.7) ക്ഷീരപൂർണവും ജലം നിറഞ്ഞതും തൈരിനൊത്ത കാമ്പുള്ളതുമായ കുടം നാളീകേരമെന്ന്. ഈ നാളീകേരം ഒരോ അയ്യപ്പ സ്വാമിയും ആഴിയിൽ ആഹൂതിയായി അർപ്പിക്കണം. നെയ്യ് അഗ്നിപൂരിതമായ ആ വിഗ്രഹത്തിൽ അർപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ഒരു യാഗം തന്നെയാണ് ഇത്. ഇതു തന്നെയാണ് ദേവയജ്ഞം.

ശബരിമല തീർത്ഥാടനം ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരോ ഭക്തനും സ്ത്രീ പുരുഷഭേദമില്ലാതെ 41 ദിവസത്തെ വ്രതം എടുത്തു തന്നെ ആ യാഗഭൂമിയിൽ പോകാവൂ. ഒരു ഗുരുസ്വാമിയോടൊപ്പം പോകണം. കൃത്യമായ അനുഷ്ഠാനമില്ലാതെ ആ താപസ ഭൂമി മലിനമാക്കരുത്… ശബരിമല തീർത്ഥാടനത്തിലെ വൈദിക ദർശ്ശനം എത്ര മഹത്തരമാണ്.
